Aside from having a full-time corporate job, I also have side hustles such as doing fashion styling and writing for magazines. I love being busy but to make sure I don’t burn myself out, I put great importance in balancing everything I do with proper R&R. With this, I travel during long weekends to maximize my free time and whenever I’m in the country, I love doing staycations and spend the weekend doing relaxing things.
One of my favorite staycation places is Marco Polo Ortigas. You might be wondering “WHY? That’s not even located in a far away beach…” but that’s exactly the point! I don’t have enough time to go to far away places during normal weekends and this hotel, being right in the middle of the city (bonus: Shangri-La and SM Mega Malls are also nearby), is the perfect solution to my needs!
Marco Polo Ortigas Manila opened last 2014, becoming the first purpose-built five-star Marco Polo hotel in the country, offering discerning guests spacious and well-designed rooms.
I stayed in one of their Premier Rooms for this visit. Let’s see how my room looks like…
Located a few steps from the room’s main door entrance is a spacious restroom with full amenities.
Of course, true to the Marco Polo service world wide, every guests get to enjoy this complete set of staple toiletries.
Their rooms are really big and spacious (this one is 61 sqm), making them perfect for family staycations as well!
King bed all to myself, yay!
Loving the elegant earth tone finish of my room.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Marco Polo!
Aside from a comfortable stay, Marco Polo also cares about the guests’ wellness, thus, dedicating its whole 22nd floor to serve as a recreation hub.
One of my favorite spots- the indoor infinity swimming pool.
And since we’re talking about relaxation, Marco Polo is proud to present its full-service spa center FLOW.
I didn’t realize that it was already around dinner time when I finished my hotel tour. Marco Polo, a dining destination, has four signature outlets namely: Cafe Pronto, Cucina, Lung Hin, and Vu’s. Since my mom’s joining me that night, I decided to go for her favorite cuisine- Chinese.
Located at the 44th floor of the hotel, Lung Hin features authentic Cantonese cuisine headed by expert Hong Kong chefs.
Hot and Sour Soup to start off my meal…
Growing up, I never really learned to love this dish but my mom is super addicted to this! Steamed Chicken Feet with XO Sauce.
Steamed Pork Siomai with Truffle Sauce
Deep-fried Crispy Tofu with Seaweed Salad
Stir-fried Squid with Mashed Salted Eggs and Seasonings– I super loved this!!!
Deep-fried Spareribs with Black Vinegar SauceNo meal is complete without veggies! Stir-friend Seasonal Hong Kong Vegetables in Garlic.
Deep-fried Boneless Chicken with Sliced Almond in Lemon Sauce
We were about to end our meal when the chef of the restaurant came out to greet and let us try this about-to-be-launched new dish. What’s special about this Xiao Long Bao? Its pink wrap doesn’t contain any food colouring at all! Cool, isn’t it?Chinese feast, yum!
My mom with Lung Hin’s Chef Leung (fun fact: they’re both from Hong Kong!)
I grew up eating authentic Chinese food (almost every day) at home. Being super familiar and accustomed to this cuisine, I rarely get pleased with majority of the food Chinese restaurants in Manila offer. But I must say, Lung Hin really exceeded my expectations. Approved!
After spending a few more hours of chit-chatting and bonding with my mom, it was finally time to go back to my room to rest. To fully maximize my staycation, I booked an in-room massage service from FLOW Spa (the one from the hotel’s 22nd floor). Best way to cap off my day!
