If Style Nanda (the famous korean makeup and lifestyle brand) and Wes Anderson were to collaborate and design a hotel, then The Great Madras would be the perfect output.Situated in Little India, this quaint 1-year old gem was once a budget backpackers hostel (Hotel Madras Tekka) which underwent a major refurbishment. The result? Perhaps the most Instagrammable boutique hotel in Singapore at the moment.Just a 3-minute walk away from Jalan Besar MRT Station, the retro whimsical design of both the interior and exterior of this hotel will surely transport you to a magical world. How cute is this laundry area? There’s also The Golden Rule, a barber shop in the lobby for the gentlemen who want to have a haircut for a change.Spanning 3 stories high, The Great Madras has 35 rooms and 8 room types that range from 9 to 28 square meters. For this trip, I chose to stay in their “The Better Room,” a medium-sized 12 square meter room.An artfully decorated pastel-hued room welcomed me upon checking-in!The millennial pink tiles definitely added to the personality of the room.Despite the room being smaller than the usual hotels, it actually has everything I need for a comfortable stay!Love the mini note by my bedside- “Travel stirs the soul and stills the heart.”That mirror definitely sealed the deal.A little surprise awaits right outside my window.I love how they were able to incorporate this retro-themed pool into the hotel given the limited space. Bravo!Didn’t notice it at first but the tiles read “while the sun shines” from above. Cute!Another thing to look out for? The super picturesque neon signboards all over the compound.
